One of my clients recently recommended that I read Immunity to Change by Robert Kegan and Lisa Laskow Lahey. The book jacket lists endorsements by Peter Senge (The Fifth Discipline) and Daniel Goleman (Emotional Intelligence) as well as leaders at McKinsey, Disney Media, and Microsoft.
I love this book. It's a really helpful, well-supported guide to making lasting behavioral change. The main idea is that behind the bad behavior that we say we want to change (eating too much candy, micromanaging our subordinates etc) is a powerful, deeply held belief that makes us not want to change (if i don't eat candy, how will i reward myself when i'm having a tough day? if I don't micromange, it is likely that my employees will take advantage of me).
It's easy to read, and contains both big ideas for massive organizational change as well as small, simple tips for improving your own quality of life. Great for the holidays. Enjoy!
